Apa Itu Qwiki ?

Who doesn’t like a Quickie? The entertainment and excitement I get from this new kind of Qwiki is just as exhilarating. Right now don’t ask me to choose between the two different types, especially while doing a review. Since Qwiki is still in the Alpha phase, you may have to wait for an invite. I’ve provided a link below that might get you one, but there are no guarantees.

For those who haven’t heard of Qwiki, the best way I can describe it is a very hight tech form of search engine. Qwiki’s new method for presenting the result you select is very cutting edge. I’m not sure how it assembles all the information that is gathered. Right now all I can tell you is that it is done with some sort of ”magic”. Since I’m not a techie you will have to contact the developers to see how they do it. All I know is that it works for me.

A “Qwiki search” will provide you with a list of search results similar to those you get with other search engines. The similarity ends here and this is were the “cutting edge feature” takes over. You will find when you click on a result that a “powerpoint presentation of sorts” with voice starts speaking. You will feel you are hearing the female version of the great and powerful “OZ”. I have no idea who the computer generated voice is behind this curtain. After the brief presentation you will notice that additional links about the topic are provided. You will also note more presentations, which you can click on to play. This is what makes Qwiki so neat and is also the Rabbit hole that may have you falling a long ways.

My initial search in Qwiki didn’t leave me with that “wow” factor. Perhaps this was because I searched for information on the city I live in. Since this is knowledge I already possessed I found it to be a little drab. For my next search I tried famous people. I chose a few tv actors and some of my favorite movies. Immediately my impression of Qwiki started to change.

The beauty of Qwiki was winning me over with her enchantments. I loved the way I could type a search for a favorite TV show and Qwiki would tell me the history of the show in that sexy computer voice(jk). Qwiki displayed the show actors, which led to even more presentations. I know I can skim information faster, but the way Qwiki assembles it so fast and plays it back in voice is utterly amazing. One Qwiki presentation of a TV show commented how that show teetered on cancellation for the last 2 years. In case you curious about the show, it was “Chuck”. I wanted to test Qwiki on current shows, just to see how up to date it was. Even in my search on Songs I came away impressed. I did a search on the group “Slipnot” and was surprised to find Qwiki mentioned the death of a recent member. The history of the lead singer ” Corey Taylor” was terrific.

Next I jumped into the the Science Realm. I wanted to see what it had on the Nudi branch and Hardon Collider(I know those names sound sexually suggestive, but they have nothing to do with sex). Then I decided to tackle a few species of fish, most notably the “Flathead Catfish” and Flounder” because I love to fish for them. The links from my fish quest led me to the world of geography , which led me down the Appalachian Trail. All of these had had even more presentations associated with them. It seemed the more I looked at one search result that I found even more to peel back. This was the addicting part, it kept opening all these great doors. I even looked up Sushi. Man was I blown away by the presentations and felt I was in Sushi 101.

Qwiki gets a Double Wow from me! I can’t say enough good things about it. I certainly hope you will take time to try it. I’ll warn you now, it’s very very addicting. It’s a fun way to do your research and just like any road trip, sometime the detours are well worthwhile. I would have never known my favorite movie “Shawshank Redemption” was a box office bomb if I hadn’t taken the time to hear Qwiki presentation.
